Guide to tweakments

Tweakments have transformed the way we approach aesthetic medicine.

Rather than visibly altering the way you look, the aim is to make subtle, carefully considered improvements to the health and structure of your skin. This could be through softening lines, restoring lost volume, improving facial balance, enhancing definition or simply helping your skin to look healthier and more radiant.

With so many treatments available, knowing where to start can be difficult. At Hannah London, we believe the best approach begins with understanding your individual skin quality and aesthetic goals.

This guide explores three of the most common reasons our patients consider tweakments: anti-ageing, balancing and contouring, and improving skin texture and tone.

We’ll explain what can contribute to each concern, explore the treatment options available and look at how professional treatments and an at-home regime can work together.

Most importantly, we’ll explain why a personalised approach is the starting point for achieving refined, natural-looking results.

Section one – Anti-ageing tweakments

Ageing is a natural process. As we get older, collagen and elastin production gradually decline, whilst changes in our facial fat, bone structure and skin hydration can all alter the way our faces look and feel.

The result of skin ageing is about much more than the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You may notice that your skin feels less firm, that your complexion looks duller or drier, or that areas which once looked naturally full have lost some of their volume.

Expression lines can also become more noticeable. Repeated muscle movement contributes to lines around areas such as the forehead the eyes and the mouth, whilst changes in skin structure can contribute to folds and loss of definition, particularly in the mid and lower face.

What are some of the common signs of facial ageing?

We all age differently, but common concerns include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Frown lines and forehead lines (often called ‘elevens’)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Loss of skin firmness and elasticity
  • Loss of facial volume
  • Hollowing beneath the eyes
  • Skin laxity around the mouth and lower face
  • Less defined facial contours
  • Dull, dehydrated or crepey-looking skin
  • Uneven skin texture

It’s important to remember that these changes are not problems that necessarily need to be ‘fixed’. Aesthetic treatments are a personal choice and the most appropriate approach is one that reflects how you want to look and feel.

How can ageing affect confidence?

For some people, the way their face changes over time can affect how they feel about their appearance.

You may feel that your face looks more tired than you feel, or that photographs no longer reflect how you see yourself. Others may simply want to maintain healthy-looking skin and address small changes before they become more noticeable.

The aim of modern aesthetic treatments is not to stop the ageing process, but to support skin health, address specific concerns and restore or enhance your natural features.

Choosing the right anti-ageing treatment

Because the ageing process affects us all differently, the best approach to anti-ageing treatments is one that starts with what you would most like to improve. For example:

If your main concern is deepening expression lines:
Botox treatment helps to soften the dynamic lines caused by repeated muscle movement.

If you’ve noticed a loss of volume or fullness:
Carefully placed dermal fillers can restore lost volume and enhance your skin’s structure and support. They are particularly effective in the mid and lower face, and around the mouth, where skin laxity can be most obvious.

If your skin feels dehydrated, dull or less supple:
Deeply hydrating skin boosters contain hyaluronic acid combined with active ingredients such as amino acids to deeply hydrate and improve skin quality for the long term.

If you are concerned about your skin’s texture or tone:
Treatments such as microneedling stimulate the skin’s natural repair processes to improve skin texture. Whereas the Pro Yellow Laser promotes collagen production and targets areas of uneven skin tone.

If you have a number of concerns:
A personalised treatment plan can address a number of concerns. Treatments can sometimes be carefully ‘stacked’ to target specific aspects of ageing.

At your initial consultation, your practitioner will assess your facial structure, skin quality and aesthetic goals before recommending an appropriate, personalised treatment plan.

Anti-ageing treatment options

Botox – reduce wrinkles and expression lines

Botox is a well-known anti-wrinkle treatment that works by temporarily relaxing carefully targeted muscles to soften expression lines

The aim isn’t necessarily to eliminate every line. For many patients, subtle treatment creates a fresher appearance whilst maintaining natural character and expression.

Dermal fillers – restore volume and hydration

Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are used to restore volume, enhance facial proportions and provide structural support.

Fillers can be used in carefully selected areas of the mid-face, lower face, lips and tear troughs:

  • Mid-face fillers help restore volume that has been lost from the cheeks and temples.
  • Lower-face fillers can be used to improve definition and support where changes in facial structure have contributed to jowls or loss of contour around the jawline.
  • Lip fillers aren’t necessarily about larger lips – carefully placed filler can subtly restore lost volume and improve definition of the lips.
  • Tear trough fillers may be appropriate for patients who are concerned about hollowness beneath the eyes. Carefully targeted fillers can plump out this area to hydrate and rejuvenate.

Skin boosters – deeply hydrate and improve long-term skin health

Skin boosters are injectable treatments designed primarily to improve skin quality rather than add facial volume.

Your practitioner will recommend the most appropriate skin booster for your particular concerns. They are deeply hydrating, improve elasticity and texture, as well as promote collagen and elastin production.

Hannah London offers a range of skin boosters, including Profhilo, Jalupro, Sunekos and polynucleotides.

Skin boosters combine hyaluronic acid with active ingredients such as amino acids and peptides to deeply hydrate and act on the skin at a cellular level to encourage its natural rejuvenating processes.

Microneedling – improve skin tone and texture

Microneedling uses very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries within the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing response and encouraging collagen production.

Dermapen can be used to improve concerns including texture, scarring, fine lines and skin firmness.

Potenza takes microneedling a step further by combining microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy. The RF energy is delivered through the needles to stimulate deeper tissue remodelling, making it particularly effective for skin tightening and firmness.

Pro Yellow Laser – target redness, pigmentation and skin quality

The Pro Yellow Laser uses a specialised 577nm yellow wavelength to target concerns including pigmentation, redness and vascular conditions, while also supporting collagen production and overall skin rejuvenation.

For patients whose skin concerns include sun damage, uneven pigmentation or redness, this pioneering laser treatment may form part of their personalised treatment plan.

Anti-ageing tweakments – your questions answered

Will tweakments make me look different?

A carefully administered treatment aims to enhance your natural features rather than change your facial character. At Hannah London, the emphasis is on subtle, natural-looking results.

Do I need fillers if I have wrinkles?

Wrinkles can have different causes, so the appropriate treatment depends on why they have developed. Some lines are primarily caused by muscle movement, while others are associated with changes in skin quality or volume.

This is why expert assessment and an individual treatment approach is important for achieving truly personalised results.

Can you combine anti-ageing treatments?

Certainly. Different treatments can address different aspects of ageing. For example, botox may address dynamic lines, whilst skin boosters focus on hydration and skin quality.

Combining or ‘stacking’ treatments should always be carefully planned by an experienced practitioner for optimum results.

Section two – Balancing and contouring tweakments

Facial balance is about the relationship between your individual features and your personal perception of them.

Sometimes a small change to one area can enhance the overall balance of the face and help our patients to feel happier with their facial profile.

Common concerns that our patients come to us with include feeling that their chin appears less defined, their cheekbones lack youthful projection, their lips may feel disproportionate or their jawline may have become less contoured over time.

For some patients, these characteristics may be part of their natural face shape, for others they may have developed gradually through ageing, weight loss or changes in skin and tissue structure.

Tweakments can be used to subtly create greater harmony between features.

What is facial contouring?

Facial contouring involves improving the definition, shape or proportions of the face.

Depending on the individual, this might involve:

  • Enhancing cheek definition
  • Creating greater chin projection
  • Refining lip proportions
  • Improving the appearance of the jawline
  • Reducing the appearance of facial heaviness
  • Creating greater harmony between facial features

Choosing the right balancing and contouring treatment

The aim of the treatment should always be to subtly improve facial harmony for the individual patient.

If your concern is facial proportions:
Dermal fillers may be used to add subtle structure or volume to areas such as the chin, cheeks or lips, or to correct asymmetry.

If you feel your smile shows too much of your gums:
Carefully placed botox may be considered for a gummy smile.

If you are concerned by nasal flaring when you smile or express yourself:
Botox may sometimes be used to reduce the activity of the muscles contributing to nasal flaring.

If your jawline has become less defined:
Depending on the cause, fillers, HIFU skin-tightening treatment or the Alteon Korean Magic Lift may be considered.

Balancing and contouring treatment options

Botox – facial balancing through targeted muscle relaxation

Botox isn’t only effective at smoothing the skin by targeting dynamic wrinkles, it can also be used to gently relax the small muscles that cause a gummy smile and nasal flaring.

A thorough understanding of facial anatomy is particularly important when targeting these muscles.

Dermal fillers – adding volume to contour and balance

Fillers can provide structure and volume in areas where subtle changes are needed to improve overall facial balance. For example:

Chin filler can create increased projection or definition and therefore create an improved facial balance.

Cheek filler can restore or enhance cheek volume and definition.

Lip filler can subtly restore volume, as well as improve shape and definition.

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) – firming the facial profile

HIFU is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production and encourage skin tightening.

It can be used to improve skin laxity, helping to create a firmer, more defined appearance, particularly around the jawline.

Alteon Korean Magic Lift – tightening and lifting

The Alteon Hybrid Lifting Platform, also known as the Alteon Korean Magic Lift, combines dual-wavelength laser technology with radiofrequency energy.

Alteon is an innovative and highly effective treatment to lift, tighten, sculpt and improve skin quality without needles or surgery. It can be particularly useful when the concern is related to skin laxity and lower-face definition, including the jawline.

Alteon works through controlled thermal energy. Which encourages collagen remodelling and tissue tightening.

Balancing and contouring tweakments – your questions answered

Can facial contouring make my face look more angular?

Contouring is about subtly improving definition and overall facial harmony, rather than creating one particular aesthetic.

Your practitioner will carefully consider your facial proportions before deciding whether adding volume, reducing muscle activity or skin tightening is the most appropriate approach for your individual needs.

Can I contour my jawline without filler?

Depending on what is causing the lack of definition, options may include energy-based skin-tightening treatments such as Alteon or other approaches recommended during your consultation.

Find out more about jawline contouring with the Alteon Hybrid Lifting Platform.

Section three – Texture and tone tweakments

Healthy skin is about much more than addressing the signs of ageing. Texture, tone, hydration, firmness and radiance all contribute to the overall appearance of your complexion.

You may notice that your skin looks dull or uneven, feels rough or dehydrated, or that pores, areas of pigmentation, redness, fine lines or acne scarring have become more noticeable.

Some changes to our skin are associated with ageing. However, they can also be influenced by genetics, hormones, sun exposure, acne or inflammation, and environmental factors.

Common texture and tone concerns include:

  • Dullness
  • Dehydration
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Redness or rosacea
  • Visible pores
  • Fine lines
  • Loss of firmness
  • Uneven texture
  • Acne scarring

These concerns are generally about the quality and appearance of the skin itself.

Choosing the right texture and tone treatment

If your skin feels dry or dehydrated:
Skin boosters and hydrating facials can improve moisture levels and radiance.

If your main concern is skin texture:
Microneedling can stimulate collagen and encourage smoother, firmer-looking skin.

If you have areas of pigmentation or redness:
The Pro Yellow Laser may be the most appropriate approach, following a detailed assessment.

If you want to improve firmness and reduce laxity:
Potenza, HIFU, biostimulators or Alteon may be considered depending on your individual skincare goals.

If you want an immediate skin refresh:
Treatments such as Hydrafacial or the WOW Facial can provide a more immediate boost to the appearance and feel of the skin.

If you want longer-term skin regeneration:
Biostimulators and other treatments that stimulate collagen production may form part of a longer-term treatment plan.

Texture and tone treatment options

Biostimulators – long-term collagen stimulation

Biostimulators work at a cellular level to encourage the skin to produce more of its own collagen over time. At Hannah London, biostimulator options include Sculptra, Rich PL, Lanluma and Ellansé.

They help to improve firmness, skin quality and structural support gradually, rather than creating an immediate plumping effect.

Skin boosters – improve skin health and texture

Our range of skin boosters improve hydration, elasticity, texture and radiance from within the skin.

Different formulations have different properties, which is why the choice of skin booster is based on assessment of your skin’s individual needs.

WOW Facial – deeply nourishing and revitalising

The WOW Facial is a multi-stage treatment designed around the individual needs of your skin.

It combines techniques including peeling, microneedling, mesotherapy and LED light therapy with a nourishing mask and tailored aftercare. It is a highly effective treatment to refresh and rejuvenate your complexion.

Hydrafacial – instant skin refresh

Hydrafacial is a non-invasive facial treatment designed to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin.

It is an excellent treatment option if your goal is a fresher, smoother and more radiant complexion, with no downtime.

Microneedling – enhance skin tone and texture

Microneedling stimulates the skin’s natural repair response, encouraging collagen production and improving the appearance of texture, fine lines, scarring and firmness.

Dermapen offers targeted microneedling, while Potenza combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy for tissue remodelling and tightening.

HIFU – tightens and lifts

HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) is a non-invasive treatment that delivers focused ultrasound energy into targeted tissue to stimulate tightening and rejuvenation.

HIFU can be used on areas of the face and neck to improve firmness and create a more lifted appearance.

Pro Yellow Laser – targets specific skin concerns

The Pro Yellow Laser is a highly effective treatment for addressing uneven tone, pigmentation or redness.

Its 577nm yellow wavelength targets blood vessels and excess melanin in the skin while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.

It can be used for concerns including rosacea, vascular lesions, pigmentation, melasma, acne and acne scarring, as well as overall skin rejuvenation.

Pro Yellow Laser treatment can also be combined with skin boosters as part of a layered approach to improving skin clarity, hydration and radiance.

Texture and tone tweakments – your questions answered

Can I improve my skin without having injectables?

Absolutely. Facials, microneedling, laser treatments and energy-based treatments can all play a role in improving skin quality, depending on your individual concerns.

Which treatment is best for glowing skin?

A facial may provide an immediate radiance boost, whilst skin boosters, microneedling, laser treatments or biostimulators can form part of a longer-term plan for your skin’s health and vitality.

Can aesthetic treatments improve my skin’s long-term health?
