What is fatigue?
When you feel tired, you normally expect that a good night’s sleep or a short holiday will have you feeling back to your usual self. When your tiredness continues, despite your efforts to get more rest, and find yourself regularly feeling exhausted in the morning or during the day, you may be experiencing fatigue.
Fatigue may also be referred to as burnout or chronic tiredness. While tiredness is something that comes and goes, fatigue is a chronic condition that, when left untreated, will persist over a long period of time. Two well-known forms of chronic fatigue are ME (myalgic Encephalomyelitis) and CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome).
Symptoms you are likely to experience as a result of fatigue include:
- Tiredness and low energy levels.
- Difficulty concentrating.
- Low motivation.
- Muscle pains and muscles that always ‘feel tired’.
- Irritability and impatience.

What causes fatigue?
Fatigue is usually caused by a combination of physical, psychological and lifestyle factors.
Deficiencies in Vitamin B and vitamin D can cause fatigue, as well as anaemia (an iron deficiency). Other physical factors include viral infections, like flu, glandular fever or COVID, which can cause chronic tiredness lasting anywhere from a few days to several months (or longer).
Hormonal changes, for example during puberty, pregnancy or the menopause, may be a factor, and fatigue may also be a sign of an underlying health condition like diabetes, reduced kidney function or hyperthyroidism.
Although it sounds obvious, any factors which mean you aren’t able to get enough sleep over a long period of time, like insomnia or sleep apnoea, are also likely to cause fatigue.
You may be at greater risk of experiencing fatigue if your lifestyle exposes you to high levels of stress or if you have experienced a stressful life event like becoming a parent or a bereavement. These may lead to a chronic sense of fatigue.

Clinic based treatments
Blood tests
Blood tests
With a blood test we can check for up to 150 biomarkers associated with the deficiencies and conditions that may cause fatigue including a blood count, kidney health, bone health, inflammation, iron levels, diabetes status and more.
IV drip
IV drip
An IV (intravenous) drip will deliver a carefully selected set of nutrients and vitamins designed to give your body exactly what it needs to get rid of fatigue and leave you feeling energised. Because it goes directly into the bloodstream, an IV will act fast to reduce or remove your symptoms.
B-vitamin complex
B-vitamin complex
Usually taken in tablet form, there are eight different B vitamins which form the B-vitamin complex, combined into one pill. B vitamins play a role in energy production and in body processes that impact your heart, brain and individual cells.
Magnesium
Magnesium
Often taken in tablet or liquid form, magnesium plays several important roles in the body which support our energy levels. Magnesium relaxes the muscles (a deficiency of it can cause muscle cramps) and its role in relaxing our muscles can help to improve sleep. Magnesium is also a vital element in the production of energy that happens in our cells.
