Treatment Explained

Cheek enhancement
with dermal fillers

This highly effective treatment is popular with patients who would like to address the signs of ageing in the midface. Carefully targeted cheek fillers lift and restore youthful volume to the cheeks, fill out lines and wrinkles, and in doing so lift the lower face for a rejuvenating effect.

This treatment is also used to enhance the cheekbones, to bring greater definition and a more pleasing facial contour, with beautiful results.

At our Harley Street and Colindale, London clinics, we offer cheek enhancement with dermal fillers.

You will experience your treatment at one of our luxurious, award-winning London aesthetic clinics, led by Dr Kaywaan Khan.

Cheek enhancement benefits

  • Lifting cheek filler

Dermal fillers are highly effective at restoring lost volume to the cheeks and filling out lines and wrinkles.

They bring back youthful fullness to the cheeks and, in doing so, have a lifting effect on the lower face for an overall rejuvenating effect. This is achieved by carefully targeting the dermal filler into the deeper layers of the skin to support its structure.

  • Lift and contour

At the same time as targeting dermal fillers to lift and rejuvenate the cheeks, we can use them to enhance your facial features. We can define the cheekbones or create a soft, roundness to the cheeks.

As we age, loss of collagen causes skin laxity. As a result, our facial profile naturally alters from a ‘V’ shape to more of an ‘A’ shape.

Contouring is particularly beneficial for restoring youthful definition, or creating an enhanced cheekbone, helping you to retain the youthful ‘V’ facial shape.

When administering the filler for cheek contouring, we use a cannula rather than a needle. This method enables greater coverage of the cheek area to create the required definition, whilst hydrating the surface of the skin.

  • Cheekbone enhancement

As well as addressing the signs of ageing, dermal fillers are highly effective at recontouring to create a more attractive facial structure.

We work with patients who wish to create a higher or more enhanced cheekbone.

With cheek fillers, we can create beautiful results.

  • Deep hydration

The hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers makes them extremely hydrating for the skin.

Therefore, whatever your desired outcome for your cheek enhancement – whether this is to lift and rejuvenate your skin, lift and recontour or simply enhance your natural features – your skin will feel wonderfully smooth and hydrated.

  • Non-surgical treatment with no downtime

Dermal fillers offer a gentle, effective, non-surgical solution to cheek enhancement.

You can go on with your life as normal, with no downtime.

The science behind dermal
fillers for cheek enhancement

Dermal fillers are rich in hyaluronic acid. This substance, which occurs naturally in the body, is responsible for maintaining moisture levels in the skin and supporting the skin’s structure.

The hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers is gel-like in texture, so when injected in targeted areas of the cheeks it restores volume and has a lifting, contouring effect on facial features.

Dermal fillers are also deeply hydrating as hyaluronic acid acts as a magnet for moisture. Your skin will feel and appear hydrated, smooth and plump.

  • What is cheek enhancement with dermal fillers?

The hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers is a gel-like substance that restores volume in the skin and has a smoothing, lifting effect on the cheeks and lower face.

Dermal fillers can be used to contour the cheekbones to achieve a more defined facial shape.

Dermal fillers deeply hydrate the skin to give a plump and healthy appearance.

  • Is treatment with dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are usually safe and effective. There can be some risks as with any skin injectables. However, when dermal fillers are administered by a trained medical professional, risks are minimised. Incorrect filler injection can be reversed with a treatment to dissolve the filler.

The greatest risk of having filler treatment with an inexperienced practitioner is incorrect injection of the filler. If the filler enters a blood vessel, blood supply can be blocked to that part of the face.

  • Does dermal filler treatment for cheek enhancement hurt?

There may be slight discomfort during treatment, but this is minimised by the application of a topical anaesthetic cream beforehand.

  • What are the pre-treatment requirements and advice?

You will have a pre-treatment health check with us to ensure your suitability for treatment with dermal fillers.

Please inform us of any significant health problems or neuromuscular conditions you may have.

Dermal fillers may be unsuitable for you if you are taking certain medication.

Prior to your treatment taking place, to reduce any risk of infection, the treatment area should be hair and make-up free. Therefore, we advise that you should shave and remove any make-up before arriving at your appointment.

You may wish to take paracetamol one hour prior to arrival to minimise discomfort during the procedure. When you arrive at our clinic we may apply a numbing cream which can take up to 30 minutes to take effect.

Smoking or alcohol may affect the healing process. Therefore, these are best avoided prior to and at least one week after the treatment.

  • What are the side effects of treatment with dermal fillers?

Most patients will experience some tenderness and swelling around the injection sites following their filler treatment. This should resolve within the first 24 hours, but it may continue for up to a week.

After this, you may notice some slight redness over a few days following treatment, whilst the skin is healing.

Any bruising that occurs can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. We recommend applying aloe vera gel/arnica ointment and cold packs to speed up recovery.

  • What aftercare is required?

Your practitioner will give you full information about any aftercare requirements following your treatment with fillers.

You should avoid touching the treatment area until 6 hours after the treatment. After this period, the area can be gently washed with soap and water and light make-up can be applied.

Whilst the initial swelling and redness are healing, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (such as a solarium or sunbathing) or extreme cold.

For the first 4 hours following treatment, you should avoid bending or lying excessively. Vigorous exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours.

Download our dermal filler pre-treatment and aftercare leaflet for further information.

  • How long do dermal fillers for cheek enhancement last?

Dermal fillers last between 6 and 12 months.

After about six months, your body naturally breaks down the hyaluronic acid fillers. You have the option to get top-ups once or twice a year to maintain the benefits.

  • What are the benefits of cheek enhancement with dermal fillers?

The benefits of dermal fillers for cheek enhancement include:
    ● Lifted, plumped and rejuvenated cheeks
    ● Lifted and contoured cheeks for a more pleasing facial shape
    ● Enhanced cheekbones for greater definition
    ● Deeply hydrated skin
