Treatment Explained
Nose to mouth lines rejuvenation with dermal fillers
With age, the production of collagen and elastin naturally diminishes in our skin, and we can start to see the effects of skin laxity. As skin sags in areas such as the cheeks, lines and folds can form.
The medical term for nose to mouth lines is ‘nasolabial folds’. These folds run from each side of the nose down to the corners of the mouth, and they are particularly visible when we smile or laugh.
Dermal fillers restore youthful fullness to the skin. They are the perfect way to fill out lines and folds, and lift the skin in targeted areas for an immediate rejuvenating effect. Dermal fillers are also deeply hydrating, so they make the skin feel plump and soft.
At our Harley Street and Colindale, London clinics, we offer nasolabial fold fillers.
You will experience your treatment at one of our luxurious, award-winning London aesthetic clinics, led by Dr Kaywaan Khan.

Nasolabial fold rejuvenation with dermal fillers benefits
-
Fill out smile lines
With dermal fillers, we plump out nasolabial folds to restore youthful fullness between the nose and mouth.
Dermal fillers deeply hydrate the skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth.
We approach treatment with either a needle or cannula, depending on how much filler is required to achieve your desired results. Most patients need 1 to 2 mls of filler.
We can also treat the pyriform fossa. This is the deep triangular space beside the nostrils where the nasolabial fold starts. Treatment with dermal fillers gently smooths and lifts this area of skin.
-
Lift and plump the skin
By carefully targeting dermal fillers to plump out nasolabial folds, the cheeks are also lifted, which gives an immediate rejuvenating effect.
-
Treatment combination
Cheek filler is a perfect partner treatment that can be used in combination with dermal fillers for nasolabial folds. Cheek filler further lifts the skin in the midface, to smooth and reduce the appearance of folds.
Botox can also be used to gently relax the nasalis muscle, to prevent deeper folds from recurring.
-
Non-surgical treatment with no downtime
Dermal fillers offer a gentle, effective, non-surgical solution to facial rejuvenation.
You can go on with your life as normal, with no downtime.

I recently visited Hannah London for filler treatment to address my nasolabial folds, and the experience was exceptional. Dr. Kaywaan was highly professional and took the time to explain how the fillers would smooth out the deep lines around my mouth, giving me a more refreshed and youthful appearance. The results were instant and exceeded my expectations. My nasolabial folds are much less pronounced, and my overall face looks rejuvenated yet natural. The clinic is beautifully designed, and the staff were welcoming and attentive, making the entire process smooth and comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. Kaywaan and the team at Hannah London.

I had been noticing deep lines around my nose and mouth, commonly known as nasolabial folds, which were making me look older and tired. After researching, I chose Hannah London for filler treatment, and I’m glad I did. The practitioner was very professional and explained how the fillers would work to reduce the appearance of these folds while maintaining a natural look. The procedure was quick and painless, and the results were immediately noticeable. My face looks refreshed, and the lines are significantly softened. The science behind dermal
fillers for nasolabial folds
The reduction of collagen and elastin as we age causes volume loss in the cheeks. Depending on the individual patient’s bone structure and muscularity, this can be more significant for some people, so that their nasolabial folds are deeper and more obvious.
Dermal fillers are rich in hyaluronic acid. This naturally occurring substance in the body is responsible for maintaining moisture levels in the skin.
The hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers is gel-like in texture, so when injected in targeted areas into the skin it restores volume and has a lifting, rejuvenating effect on facial features.
Dermal fillers are also deeply hydrating. The hyaluronic acid acts as a magnet for moisture, so your skin feels and appears hydrated, healthy and plump.
We use a range of dermal fillers to enable us to select the best possible approach for your skin type and desired results.

What are nose to mouth fillers?
‘Nasolabial folds’ is the medical term for the lines that run from each side of the nose down to the corners of the mouth. They are caused by skin laxity in the cheeks as we age, and are particularly visible when we smile or laugh.
The hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers is a gel-like substance. It restores volume in the skin and has a lifting effect.
Dermal fillers can be used to fill lines and folds, add youthful fullness to lift the skin, to recontour and add definition.
Dermal fillers also deeply hydrate the skin to give a plump and healthy appearance.
-
Is treatment with dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers are usually safe and effective. There can be some risks as with any skin injectables. However, when dermal fillers are administered by a trained medical professional, risks are minimised. Incorrect filler injection can be reversed with a treatment to dissolve the filler.
The greatest risk of having filler treatment with an inexperienced practitioner is incorrect injection of the filler. If the filler enters a blood vessel, blood supply can be blocked to that part of the face.
-
Do nasolabial fold fillers hurt?
There may be slight discomfort during treatment, but this is minimised by the application of a topical anaesthetic cream beforehand.
-
What are the pre-treatment requirements and advice?
You will have a pre-treatment health check with us to ensure your suitability for treatment with dermal fillers.
Please inform us of any significant health problems or neuromuscular conditions you may have.
Dermal fillers may be unsuitable for you if you are taking certain medication.
Prior to your treatment taking place, to reduce any risk of infection, the treatment area should be hair and make-up free. Therefore, we advise that you should shave and remove any make-up before arriving at your appointment.
You may wish to take paracetamol one hour prior to arrival to minimise discomfort during the procedure. When you arrive at our clinic we may apply a numbing cream which can take up to 30 minutes to take effect.
Smoking or alcohol may affect the healing process. Therefore, these are best avoided prior to and at least one week after the treatment.
-
What are the side effects of treatment with dermal fillers?
Most patients will experience some tenderness and swelling around the injection sites following their filler treatment. This should resolve within the first 24 hours, but it may continue for up to a week.
After this, you may notice some slight redness over a few days following treatment, whilst the skin is healing.
Any bruising that occurs can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. We recommend applying aloe vera gel/arnica ointment and cold packs to speed up recovery.
-
What aftercare is required?
Your practitioner will give you full information about any aftercare requirements following your treatment with fillers.
You should avoid touching the treatment area until 6 hours after the treatment. After this period, the area can be gently washed with soap and water and light make-up can be applied.
Whilst the initial swelling and redness are healing, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (such as a solarium or sunbathing) or extreme cold.
For the first 4 hours following treatment, you should avoid bending or lying excessively. Vigorous exercise should be avoided for at least 24 hours.

-
How long do nasolabial fold fillers last?
Nasolabial fold dermal fillers last between 6 and 12 months and can last up to 18 months in some cases.
After about six months, your body naturally breaks down the hyaluronic acid fillers. You have the option to get top-ups once or twice a year to maintain the benefits.
