treatment benefits
Acid peels are categorised based on their depth of action:
Superficial peels
These peels remove the outermost layer of skin, also known as the epidermal layer.
Superficial to medium-depth peels
Exfoliating slightly deeper, these peels target layers below the epidermis.
Medium-depth peels
These peels work on both the epidermal and upper dermal layers for more intense exfoliation and are suitable for small, targeted areas of the body
-
Superficial to Medium-Depth Peels
Patients can expect mild peeling, brighter skin and minimal downtime.
Generally recommended every 1–3 weeks for a course of 3 sessions.Glycolic acid peel
Perfect for dull or aging skin, this superficial peel deeply exfoliates and gently resurfaces. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, achieving smoother, brighter and hydrated skin.
Mandelic acid peel
Ideal for sensitive or acne-prone skin, this gentle almond-derived acid unclogs pores and reduces hyperpigmentation. Leaves skin clearer, brighter and more balanced.
Salicylic acid peel
This peel targets acne, oily skin, fine lines and wrinkles. It reduces excess oil and impurities, thereby minimising breakouts, for noticeably clearer skin.
Lactic acid peel
Ideal for acne-prone skin, this peel combats bacteria, reduces fine lines and promotes moisture retention.
Azelan peel
Comprising a mix of salicylic and azelaic acids, this peel is suitable for acne, rosacea and hyperpigmentation. It brightens and exfoliates while addressing specific skin concerns.
Melanostop peel
Combining azelaic acid, resorcinol, and phytic acid, this specialist peel can treat melasma and other pigmentation issues.
Modified Jessner peel
A customisable medium-depth peel, highly effective for treating deep scarring, pigmentation and inflammation. It can also clear blocked pores, reduce redness and address skin laxity.
-
Medium to Deep Peels
Patients can expect more dramatic peeling over 3–7 days, with some redness persisting for up to 4 weeks. Skin looks dramatically renewed and rejuvenated.
TCA peel (Includes Obagi Blue TCA peel)
An intense strength peel used to soften acne scars, address pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity. Available in varying strengths; anaesthetic cream may be required. Not suitable for sensitive or dark skin.
The Perfect Peel
This deep chemical peel contains glutathione, a powerful antioxidant composed of amino acids. It is designed to treat hyperpigmentation by reversing discolouration caused by excess melanin.
VI Peel
A painless deeper peel formulated to address skin ageing, acne and hyperpigmentation. Suitable for all skin types, it promotes collagen production and removes damaged skin, revealing smoother, tightened and more youthful skin.
TCAPhen Peel
The deepest peel we offer, combining trichloroacetic acid and phenol. Equivalent to intense CO2 laser treatment. Skin may crust and peel for up to 2 weeks, with redness lasting 2 months. After 3–6 months, healthier and renewed skin is revealed. May require sedation for comfort.

Farah Mirza
I booked a body skin peel at Hannah London because I’d been struggling with acne and scarring on my back for years. After just one session, my skin felt smoother, clearer and much less congested. By the second treatment, the scars had started to fade, and I felt confident wearing open-back dresses again. The practitioner was so professional and explained which peel was right for my skin type. This has honestly been life-changing for my confidence.
Richard Stanton
I had a chemical peel for my chest at Hannah London, and the results have been incredible. My skin used to be uneven in tone, with lots of sun damage from years of not wearing sunscreen. After a course of treatments, my chest looks smoother, brighter and much healthier. The downtime was minimal, and the clinic gave me excellent aftercare advice. I couldn’t recommend Hannah London more highly for body peels, the clinic is beautiful, and the results speak for themselves.

I went to Hannah London’s Harley Street clinic for a medium-depth peel to treat pigmentation on my back. The process was explained thoroughly, and I felt reassured throughout. After some mild peeling in the first week, my skin looked completely renewed, clearer, smoother and much more even in colour. What I really appreciated was how personalised the treatment plan was, with the peel chosen specifically for my concerns. This is by far the best decision I’ve made for my skin.
The science behind
Body skin peels
Skin peels range from superficial (glycolic or salicylic acid peels) to deep (a TCA peel).
Natural or chemical acids are applied to the skin to remove its outermost layers. The amount of skin that is removed will depend on the type of chemical peel, its strength, and how long it is left on the skin. Peel treatment stimulates the skin’s healing processes, encouraging new, fresh skin to form. Before treatment, your practitioner will cleanse your skin and apply topical anaesthesia if required. With some more intense peels, intravenous (IV) sedation may be necessary to ensure patient comfort.
During the peel treatment, patients may experience a slight stinging or a mild sensation of heat. When the peel solution is removed, your practitioner will apply a cold compress to soothe the treated area.

-
Do skin peels hurt?
Superficial peel: minimal discomfort, often described as tingling or slight stinging. Any discomfort usually subsides quickly.
Medium peel: stronger stinging or warm sensation, generally manageable. A fan or cool mask can minimise discomfort.
Deep peel: more intense warmth or tingling, but achieves more dramatic results. Your practitioner will guide you through the process to make it as comfortable as possible.
-
What can I expect after a body skin peel?
You will notice improvements in your skin after your first treatment. It will feel softer and appear rejuvenated. Regular treatments help to maintain and improve the condition of your skin.
-
What is my skin type?
At Hannah London we use a skin type scale to determine which peel treatment is best for you:
- Skin Type 1 – Pale white tone. Always burns, never tans.
- Skin Type 2 – Fair tone. Usually burns, tans with difficulty.
- Skin Type 3 – Medium, white to olive tone. Sometimes mild burn, gradually tans.
- Skin Type 4 – Olive, moderate brown tone. Rarely burns, tans with ease.
- Skin Type 5 – Dark brown tone. Very rarely burns, tans very easily.
- Skin Type 6 – Very dark brown to black tone. Never burns, deeply pigmented.
-
How long will the body skin peel results last?
Superficial peel: 1–2 months, ideal for minor refreshment; can be repeated every 3–6 weeks.
Medium peel: 3–6 months, effective for sun damage and mild scars.
Deep peel: Effects can last 1-2 years - targeted treatment to address small areas of the body such as scarred or sun damaged skin; this can be a one-off treatment or repeated after 6 months to a year, depending on the needs of each patient.
We will advise you on how to care for your skin type to extend the results.
-
How long will the peel treatment take?
Superficial peel: around 30–45 minutes, including prep.
Medium peel: 45–60 minutes.
Deep peel: 60–90 minutes for small areas, may include additional steps for comfort.
-
How long is the recovery?
Superficial peel: skin regenerates in 2 days, fully healed by 10–14 days.
Medium/deep peels: may take several weeks to fully heal, but deliver more dramatic results.
-
What are the side effects of body skin peels?
Superficial peel: redness, flakiness, peeling, tightness, and moderate sensitivity.
Medium/deep peel: tenderness, warmth, itchiness and temporary redness or scaliness. This is normal and part of the healing process.

What downtime is required?
Superficial peel: minimal downtime; mild redness/flaking resolves in 1–3 days.
Medium peel: 3–7 days; expect redness, some swelling and peeling.
Deep peel: 1–2 weeks; redness, peeling and swelling are common, with longer healing time.
-
What aftercare is required?
Your practitioner will provide full aftercare guidance, including advice on cleansing, moisturising and soothing your skin, and makeup use.
