Dermapen is an advanced microneedling treatment that supersedes the handheld dermaroller tool for a more effective, targeted and comfortable result.
With Dermapen facial and body treatments, the Dermapen device glides smoothly over your skin enabling a cluster of ultrafine needles to target and treat skin concerns such as acne scarring, stretch marks, uneven skin tone, open pores, facial scarring, along with the signs of ageing such as sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles.
Dermapen microneedling creates controlled trauma in the skin on a micro level, thereby stimulating the skin to heal itself and produce new collagen fibres. During the treatment, specially targeted nourishing serums, containing hyaluronic acid, vitamins and antioxidants further enhance the regenerative effect.

Both microneedling devices are designed stimulate skin renewal and address skin texture concerns. However, Dermapen is equipped with surgical grade disposable needles for the patient’s safety, that can be adjusted to different depths according to individual needs.
The stamping motion of Dermapen vertical needles, as opposed to the rolling action of the dermaroller, minimises discomfort and offers a more consistent and effective approach to microneedling treatment.
The Dermapen action creates tiny micro injuries that are quicker to heal, resulting in less downtime, but enabling the deep penetration of the dermal layer for optimum results.

The science behind
Dermapen treatment
The Dermapen handheld device has a detachable, sterile cartridge tip that contains stainless steel microneedles.
During treatment, the needles perform a unique, automated stamping motion, making tiny micro-punctures in the skin. This results in stimulation of new, healthy skin cells and collagen and elastin production.
Dermapen tips are supplied sterilised in individual packaging. After each treatment, the tip is safely disposed of.
The microneedling depth can be adjusted during treatment to address specific patient needs.
Dermapen treatment steps:
- The sterile Dermapen needle cartridge is attached to the Dermapen device.
- The skin is cleansed in preparation for treatment. A bespoke, blended serum is applied to the skin, then microneedling treatment begins.
- Following the microneedling treatment, a hydrating facial mask is applied, followed by cold gel pads to soothe and massage the skin.
- The treatment is completed with a vitamin-rich repair cream to further improve skin texture.

You can expect to see the benefits of Dermapen within one week of treatment. Your skin will look refreshed and revitalised.
After a course of three treatments, you will see the impact of collagen stimulation with more significant, visible improvements in your skin texture.

Is there any downtime after receiving Dermapen treatment?
There is usually no downtime. However, you may experience some facial redness that may look like sunburn. This may last from 12-48 hours.

How many Dermapen microneedling treatments will I need?
Your practitioner will discuss your desired results and treatment plan at your consultation. Depending on your skin type and skin concerns, the number of treatments and the intervals between treatments will vary.
It is generally recommended to have a course of 3-6 treatments for optimum results. However, a one-off treatment can also achieve improvement for skin concerns such as fine lines, acne scarring and pigmentation.

Is Dermapen suitable for every skin type?
Yes, Dermapen microneedling can safely be used on all skin types and tones. Microneedling treatment does not cause any inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Your practitioner will discuss this further with you, including any skin conditions you may have.

Is Dermapen suitable for acne scars?
Yes, Dermapen microneedling is an effective acne scar treatment.
The micro punctures break up fibrous tissue, stimulating new, healthier tissue to form. The needling depth can be adjusted according to the severity of the scarring.

Can Dermapen repair surgery scars?
Yes, Dermapen is proven to be an effective treatment for scars, including acne scars, burn scars, injury and surgical scars.

How should I prepare for Dermapen treatment?
On the day of the Dermapen procedure, we ask you to avoid wearing makeup and skincare products with active ingredients, so that the treated area is kept clean and dry for the treatment.
For best results, we recommend that patients do not apply any products that contain retinol or alpha-hydroxy acids on the skin up to three days before treatment.

How should I care for my skin post-treatment?
For the first 24 hours, you should avoid touching your face and refrain from applying makeup. Your skin will have micro-channels that are healing, so it is essential to keep the area clean.
Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen every day, even when indoors, to prevent any sun damage.
Apply hydrating serum or cream recommended by your practitioner to aid recovery.
Avoid products with retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, or other active ingredients for at least 3-5 days post-treatment. These can irritate sensitive, healing skin.
For 24-48 hours, you should refrain from activities that cause excessive sweating, such as exercise, saunas, and hot showers.

Can I have other facial treatments alongside Dermapen treatment?
We offer chemical peels that can be administered alongside your Dermapen treatment.
Additionally, Dermapen can be combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments to achieve optimal results.
Combining treatment with Dermapen will depend on the timing and your practitioner will advise you about the best approach.

How long do I need to wait between Dermapen treatments?
Microneedling is usually done every 4-6 weeks.
With an anti-ageing regimen, treatments can be 12 to 16 weeks apart.

Are there any side-effects of receiving Dermapen treatment?
Depending on skin type and the intensity of the treatment to target specific skin concerns, some patients may experience pinpoint bleeding only during the treatment.
You may find your skin is temporarily red in appearance. This is completely normal and lasts between two and 24 hours post-treatment, depending on treatment intensity.
In addition, skin may also feel tight, warm and dry.
Three days following treatment there shouldn’t be any evidence that the procedure has taken place.
