Mounjaro weight loss injection benefits

Mounjaro contains the agonist, tirzepatide. This active ingredient mimics the actions of two naturally occurring hormones, which are released from the gut in response to food. These hormones help to regulate appetite, blood sugar levels and digestion.

  • Appetite management

Mounjaro helps you feel full sooner after eating and helps suppress feelings of hunger.
Additionally, it slows down the emptying of the stomach, which makes you feel fuller for longer and reduces your overall food intake.

  • Exercise and diet

Mounjaro is designed to be used in conjunction with a balanced, healthy diet and regular exercise, which are an essential part of achieving sustainable, long-term weight loss.

  • Convenience

Mounjaro treatment can be self-administered at home, under the expert guidance of your practitioner.

  • Mounjaro treatment at Hannah London vs online pharmacies

At our specialist London weight loss clinic, we don’t believe in just sending your medication out to you. We know how important it is for you to receive proper assessment in a clinical environment. Through this we can determine the best approach to dosage for your needs, and ensure that you are regularly monitored.

We do offer a convenient service where we can send your medication out to you, but you will always be looked after by a clinician who knows you personally.

Our approach is entirely different from online pharmacies, which are not designed to provide you with personalised medical expertise combined with regular monitoring.

  • Combined treatment

Depending on your weight loss goals, we can combine your Mounjaro injections with other treatments, such as Emerald laser, to augment results.

The science behind Mounjaro weight loss injections

Mounjaro is a prescription weight loss medication suitable for eligible patients – those with a BMI of 27-30kg/m2 who fall into the categories of obese or overweight. It is also a suitable treatment for patients with type-2 diabetes.

Mounjaro works by mimicking the functions of two naturally occurring hormones: GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide). These incretin hormones are released by the intestines in response to food intake.

By imitating these hormones, Mounjaro helps patients feel full sooner after eating, and suppresses food cravings. Additionally, it slows gastric emptying, which can make you feel fuller for longer and reduce overall food intake.

Mounjaro vs Ozempic

Mounjaro and Ozempic are GLP-1 receptor agonist weight loss medications. Both mimic the action of the GLP-1 hormone to regulate the speed that food passes through the digestive system, and to suppress appetite.

They are both used to manage blood sugar levels. However, Mounjaro is authorised for use under prescription in the UK for weight loss purposes, whereas Ozempic can only be prescribed for the treatment of type-2 diabetes (unless used ‘off-label’ for weight loss).

Mounjaro vs Wegovy

Both Mounjaro and Wegovy are GLP-1 receptor agonist weight loss medications. Both mimic the action of the GLP-1 hormone to regulate appetite and increase feelings of fullness.

Mounjaro has a dual-action medicine, it also targets the GIP receptor, which increases insulin sensitivity.

  • What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a prescription weight loss medication, which uses the active ingredient tirzepatide.

This treatment simulates the actions of two naturally occurring hormones in the intestine: glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), to increase the body’s secretion of, and sensitivity to, insulin.

  • Who can have Mounjaro?

Mounjaro has been approved for use by type-2 diabetes patients, and in obese or overweight patients in the UK by the Medicines and Health Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

  • How does Mounjaro work?

By mimicking the action of the hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, which regulate appetite, blood sugar levels, and digestion, Mounjaro helps patients to feel full sooner after eating, and suppresses appetite.

In addition, Mounjaro slows the emptying of the stomach, helping patients feel fuller for longer and reducing overall food intake.

  • Is Mounjaro right for me?

Patients eligible for Mounjaro should have a BMI of 27-30kg/m2: those who fall into the categories of obese and overweight. It is also suitable for patients with type-2 diabetes.

  • How is Mounjaro taken?

Mounjaro is administered using a pre-filled injection pen once a week.

Your practitioner will recommend the most suitable dose for you. The starting dose is usually 2.5mg, increasing to 5mg. Further increases may be recommended by your practitioner depending on your response to treatment. The maximum dose of Mounjaro is 15mg once weekly

  • Where is Mounjaro injected?

Mounjaro can be injected under the skin of the stomach, thigh or upper arm.

  • What other weight loss measures are needed?

Mounjaro is designed to be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise. This will ensure your weight loss is both sustainable and long lasting.

  • Can I drink (alcohol) with Mounjaro?

While there is no specific known risk in combining Mounjaro and alcohol, it is recommended to limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking Mounjaro weight loss injections.

This will limit any risks of counteracting your weight loss efforts, or worsening any side-effects.

  • What are the side-effects of Mounjaro?

Mounjaro has been seen to cause some side-effects. Whilst many patients do not experience any, some are possible.

The most common side-effects of Mounjaro are usually mild and typically resolve within a few weeks. They are the body's initial response to the active ingredient, which is why Mounjaro is introduced gradually to manage any potential side-effects.

    Common side-effects of Mounjaro include:
    - Diarrhoea
    - Nausea
    - Fast pulse

    Uncommon side-effects of Mounjaro include:

    - An increase in calcitonin (a hormone that helps to control calcium levels)

In very rare cases, Mounjaro can cause a serious allergic reaction. This is known as anaphylaxis and causes breathing difficulties, throat, face and mouth swelling, and fainting.

Another rare side-effect is an inflamed pancreas, known as acute pancreatitis. If you have severe pain in your stomach or back that does not go away, a high temperature, or are sick, you should stop using Mounjaro and seek medical attention immediately.

  • How long will the results last?

Mounjaro can help patients achieve significant weight loss. Studies have shown that Mounjaro can help patients lose up to 22.5% of their body weight over a 72 week period*.
