Looking East: what we learned from the Aesthetic & Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress Asia

At Hannah London, we believe that staying at the forefront of aesthetic medicine means constantly moving forward. For us this means looking beyond the treatments and technologies currently available in the UK and seeking out the ideas, research and innovations that are shaping the future of industry worldwide.

That was the motivation behind Dr Kaywaan Khan and his colleague Kristof Nagy’s trip to Taipei in May to attend AMWC Asia-TDAC, the Aesthetic & Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress Asia, held on 1–3 May 2026.

This international conference brought together leading authorities in aesthetic medicine, dermatology and regenerative treatments – it gave us the unique opportunity to learn directly from experts across Asia and beyond.

With a programme spanning clinical dermatology, anatomy, injectables, advanced techniques, energy-based devices and regenerative medicine, the conference offered a fascinating insight into where aesthetic medicine is heading.

For us, attending this international conference was about more than discovering the latest treatments. We want to understand the science behind new approaches to help us identify what could genuinely benefit our patients – and how international innovations might translate into safe and effective treatments here in the UK.

Learning from Asia’s skincare pioneers

One of the most valuable aspects of the trip was a greater insight into the different philosophies that have influenced aesthetic medicine across Asia, particularly in Korea.

Korean skincare has become a global phenomenon, but its popularity isn’t purely the result of innovative products and clever marketing. As Dr Kaywaan and Kristof observed during the trip, skincare is deeply embedded within Korean culture, with routine, discipline and efficiency playing a fundamental role.

Therefore, the renowned multi-step approach to Korean skincare feels less like a beauty trend and more like an extension to a cultural mindset: looking after your skin proactively, rather than waiting until a problem arises.

This philosophy underpins the direction in which modern aesthetic medicine is moving.

Rather than treating the signs of ageing once they appear, there is an increasing emphasis on building and maintaining skin health and resilience. This is sometimes described as ‘prejuvenation’ – taking a preventative approach to ageing rather than correcting the visible signs of it.

The emphasis on skin quality

One of the key themes emerging from the Asian aesthetic industry is the focus on the quality of the skin itself.

Rather than concentrating purely on reducing wrinkles or restoring lost volume, advanced treatment approaches are increasingly considering factors such as collagen quality, elasticity, density and the skin’s ability to repair and regenerate.

For patients, this means a more holistic and personalised treatment plan, where different technologies and techniques are combined to support specific concerns as well as long-term improvements in skin quality.

This was one of the areas that particularly resonated with us: the concept of treatment stacking.

The benefits of treatment stacking

Historically, aesthetic treatments have been thought of as individual procedures – a facial, a laser treatment, an injectable or a skin peel for example.

However, the benefits of layering treatments as part of a carefully considered protocol are becoming more widely understood.

These treatment plans involve different approaches being used in partnership and may include energy-based devices such as the Pro Yellow Laser or radiofrequency microneedling alongside injectable biostimulators or skin boosters, for example. The recommended treatments work in combination to enhance the overall result.

Treatment stacking is about identifying treatments that will complement each other to create a personalised treatment journey around the patient’s individual needs. Importantly, it’s about improving overall skin quality for the long term.

This is an approach that we have already adopted, particularly with the Pro Yellow Laser and skin boosters, and we will be continuing to explore this further over the coming months.

The growing interest in regenerative aesthetics

Another major area of interest at the conference was the development of regenerative and bio-stimulating treatments.

Ingredients and technologies such as PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) and exosome-based products are currently more established within Asian aesthetic markets than they are in the UK.

PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is made up of DNA fragments that are used in regenerative skincare and aesthetic treatments to support the skin’s natural repair processes and promote healthier skin.

Exosomes are tiny extracellular vesicles that carry signalling molecules between cells. In aesthetic medicine, they are being explored for their potential to support skin recovery, improve skin quality and promote a more radiant appearance, particularly when used alongside microneedling and laser treatments.

These developments are particularly interesting because they reflect the overarching move towards regenerative aesthetics – harnessing and supporting the skin’s own repair processes rather than correcting the signs of ageing.

This is something that we are currently investigating further and we will be sharing more information about Exosomes soon.

Balancing innovation with safety

Regulatory differences between Asia and Europe mean that many medical-grade Korean injectables and skin boosters are not currently certified for use in the European market. This places important limitations on what can be imported, promoted and used clinically in the UK.

That is why Hannah London’s approach to innovation is deliberately selective.

We will always base our adoption of new products and technologies on careful assessment of not only their effectiveness, but also their regulatory status, clinical suitability, evidence and relevance to our patients.

Highly personalised technology

Another fascinating area discussed during the conference was the potential of AI for advanced skin analysis – to make aesthetic treatments even more personalised.

AI-assisted analysis is already being explored for assessments of skin quality to help clinicians develop tailored treatment plans.

Looking further ahead, there is the potential for increasingly personalised approaches to product formulations and treatments based on an individual’s specific biological characteristics.

Although these developments are not imminent just yet, they are reflective of the general direction for aesthetic medicine – moving towards increasingly precise, tailored treatment.

Our ethos has always been about personalised, holistic care and we were excited to learn more about what the future for this approach might hold.

Bringing international innovation back to Hannah London

The conversations, ideas and connections made in Taipei have already helped to inform our thinking about future treatments, technology and patient journeys.

One exciting example is the introduction of the Alteon Hybrid Lifting Platform, also known as the Alteon Korean Magic Lift.

Alteon combines a dual-wavelength laser and radiofrequency technology within one treatment platform, offering a new approach to lifting, tightening and improving skin quality. Its introduction at Hannah London reflects our commitment to bringing carefully selected innovations to our patients.
