Mounjaro Price Increase: What Patients Need to Know
Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro (tirzepatide), has recently announced that the private prescription price of the weight loss medication in the UK will rise significantly from 1 September 2025.
Reports confirm that some doses may increase by up to 170%, taking the monthly cost of higher strengths of Mounjaro from around £122 to approximately £330.
Understandably, the latest announcement has caused nationwide concern among patients who rely on Mounjaro as part of their medical weight loss journey. At Hannah London, we want to provide clarity, reassurance, and guidance on what this change means for you.

Why is the price of Mounjaro increasing?
According to Eli Lilly, the initial UK launch price of Mounjaro was set lower than the European average. The adjustment is intended to bring UK pricing in line with other countries. Political and economic factors, particularly changes in global drug pricing policies, have also played a role in this increase.
It is important to note that this price change applies to private prescriptions only. Patients receiving Mounjaro through the NHS will not be affected.

What does this mean for patients taking Mounjaro?
For those receiving Mounjaro privately, the main impact is financial. The medication itself remains the same, and there are no changes to its effectiveness, safety, or the way it is prescribed.
Some patients, however, have expressed concerns about being able to continue treatment. While it may be tempting to bulk-buy medication ahead of the price rise, healthcare providers strongly advise against this. Stockpiling can create supply shortages and may increase the risk of patients using medication incorrectly or beyond its expiry date.

Are there alternatives available?
Mounjaro is currently one of the most effective medications for medical weight management because it acts on two hormone pathways (GLP-1 and GIP). However, other treatments such as Ozempic and Wegovy (semaglutide) remain available, and for some patients, these may provide a suitable alternative depending on their medical history and treatment goals. Both alternatives to Mounjaro are available from Hannah London.
At Hannah London, our clinicians can carefully assess each patient and advise whether Mounjaro remains the most appropriate choice or whether another treatment may be considered. So it’s worth getting in touch with our team to discuss your weight loss injection options.
