What are skin tags?
Also known as acrochordons, skin tags are soft, skin-coloured growths found on the skin. Sometimes they are raised from the surface of the skin by a thin stalk (also called a peduncle). They are benign (non-cancerous) and they generally range in size from 2mm to 5mm. Skin tags are most likely to form in the following places:
They are not harmful, however skin tags can be a source of discomfort if they are caught when shaving or are rubbed by clothes. They can also cause embarrassment, which may affect what we feel comfortable wearing, and have a negative impact on our confidence. Skin tags can stop us from looking and feeling our best.
What causes skin tags
Skin tags are usually formed in areas where the skin folds and therefore rubs together, creating friction. They also tend to be more common in women than men.
