Botox injections for the neck and shoulders

  • Muscle relaxation

The neck and shoulders can be susceptible to muscle pain due to computer-based work or poor posture.
Botox works by preventing tensed muscles from contracting further, leading to muscle relaxation. This is helpful in reducing stiffness and muscle spasms in the shoulders and neck.

  • Pain relief

By relaxing the muscles, botox alleviates the pain associated with muscle tension and spasms in the shoulders and neck.

  • Botox for frozen shoulder

Botox can be an effective treatment to relive the pain and stiffness associated with frozen shoulder.

  • Improved posture and range of motion

Reduced muscle tension can result in improved posture. As the muscles relax, they no longer have a ‘hunched’ appearance, enabling patients to have a straighter, more upright posture.
The reduction in muscle tension can also lead to an improved range of motion in the affected areas.

  • Chronic migraine improvement

For patients who suffer from regular headaches or chronic migraines, botox injections in the neck and shoulder areas can also help to alleviate these issues. Muscle tension in the neck and shoulders is known to contribute to headaches.

  • Reduce bulky or enlarged shoulders

Targeted botox injections are a gentle, successful way to reduce shoulder size and achieve a slimmer contour.
Botox is well-known for its use in aesthetic medicine for gently reducing facial muscle activity to minimise expression lines and wrinkles.
Botox can also be effectively used to relax the shoulder and neck muscles to create the appearance of a slimmer neckline and more angled shoulders. Because this treatment is focused on the trapezius muscles, it is nicknamed ‘traptox’.

The science behind botox for the
neck and shoulders

Botox, or botulinum toxin, works by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, which prevents muscles from contracting.

When botox is carefully injected into the trapezius muscles in the shoulders, tension is reduced without affecting normal movement of the arm, shoulder joint, back and neck. This alleviates muscle stiffness and spasms, thereby reducing pain.

By carefully inhibiting the ability of the trapezius muscles to contract, an alternative outcome is that these muscles reduce in bulk and size, which creates a slimmer neck and shoulder line. This treatment is becoming commonly referred to as ‘traptox’.
