Treatment Explained
What is HIFU treatment?
HIFU therapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical alternative to a face-lift. It tightens and rejuvenates your skin to reduce any premature signs of ageing. It can be used on the face, neck or anywhere else on the body, and gives visible results after just one treatment.
The results can last up to three years, making it incredibly long lasting and removing the need for regular top-ups or repeat treatments.
It’s an ideal way to quickly and safely lift, sculpt and tighten loose skin with no pain and no downtime.

How HIFU skin tightening works
This is a fast procedure taking between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the area(s) to be treated.
-
Step one: Preparation
We begin with a consultation to understand your desired results.
On the day of the appointment, the doctor will prepare your skin by cleaning the skin surface to remove any residue like excess makeup or oils, and marking the chosen area.
-
Step two: Gel
Once the skin has been cleansed and marked, the doctor will apply 1-2mm of a specialised HIFU gel to the area of your skin to be treated.
-
Step three: HIFU therapy device
Your doctor will use a handheld HIFU device, moving it gently over the area of your body to be treated. High energy ultrasound energy waves are delivered in short bursts, directly to your skin.
You may feel some mild tingling or gentle warmth during the treatment. There are no incisions and needles are not used, so nothing pierces or damages the skin with this non-invasive treatment.
The device has different heads to target the different layers of skin, from the superficial layers under the epidermis right down to the subcutaneous (fat) layers, to fully eliminate all signs of ageing.
-
Step four: Completion
After using the handheld device, your doctor will cleanse your skin to remove any markings and excess gel from your skin, leaving you looking nourished and radiant.

The science behind
HIFU therapy
As we approach our late twenties we being to lose collagen, which is responsible for regenerating our skin, keeping it plump and firm. Loss of collagen is a key factor in the appearance of ageing.
HIFU therapy works by sending high-intensity ultrasound energy into specific layers of skin that need to be targeted. The skin tissue is heated to around 65 degrees centigrade, which disrupts the existing skin tissue and kick-starts the healing process of collagen creation.
The treatment has both a short-term effect, meaning you see an improvement after only one session, and a long-term effect, which leads to continuing results even after treatment is finished.
The short-term effect is a result of collagen contraction, the ultrasound breaks down the collagen in the skin, causing it to contract and tighten under the surface of the skin. The longer-term effect is the healing process, which stimulates greater collagen production over a period of 90 to 180 days after the treatment.
Because no incisions are made and the skin is not pierced, only the very specific areas to be treated are affected and there is no bruising or swelling.

HIFU for your body
Any area of the body can benefit from this collagen boosting treatment. You may wish to have your arms, décolletage, torso, abdomen, back or thighs (among others) treated to tighten the skin and improve your confidence in your body.
-
How many HIFU session are required to see a result?
After just one treatment, you can see noticeable results post-procedure.
The results continue to get better over time for up to six months as the collagen production gets to work.
This makes HIFU an incredibly long-lasting treatment (up to three years) that does not require regular top-ups or repeat treatments.
The HIFU therapy is unique and its ability to improve the results over time may vary, particularly around the 6-month period.
This is due to the internal inflammatory response (do not worry this will not cause visible swelling), which occurs due to the cellular damage which is needed to induce collagen formation.
As more time passes the body’s collagen production will continue to increase, which explains why results are maintained and can continue to improve even after the last procedure.
-
How long is the recovery time after HIFU therapy?
There is no downtime after HIFU therapy, as it is non-surgical. Therefore, the recovery period is significantly shorter than many other treatments which achieve similar results.
Your doctor will discuss this further with you.
