Skin peels London

Acid peels can treat all skin types and address various concerns to improve the health, tone, appearance, and texture of your skin. We offer a range of non-invasive skin peels to exfoliate, hydrate, and nourish your skin.

Due to their exfoliating properties, skin peels promote the skin’s natural ability to renew and heal itself. Chemical peels are highly effective at treating conditions such as acne, rosacea and areas of pigmentation, as well as the signs of ageing such as fine lines and crepiness.

At Hannah London, our expert practitioners have over 10 years’ experience in the study and application of chemical peels.

We believe that careful selection of the right peel for your unique skin type and concerns, along with continued aftercare, is an art that takes time to perfect. We will advise which is the most appropriate peel for your skincare aspirations.

Our skin peels for the face and body are available in Harley Street and Colindale, London. You’ll have your treatment at one of our luxurious, award-winning aesthetic clinics, led by Dr Kaywaan Khan.

Skin peels London, treatment benefits

Chemical peels are usually described according to the depth of their action in the skin:

  • Chemical peels

    Superficial peels

Peels that remove the outer layer of the skin or the ‘epidermal layer’.

    Superficial to medium-depth peels

Peels that remove the skin slightly deeper than the epidermal layer.

    Medium-depth peels

Peels that remove both the epidermal and upper dermal layers of skin for a more intense exfoliation.

  • Our range of chemical skin peel treatments at Hannah London

With our superficial to medium depth peels, patients can expect only slight peeling and achieve brighter, refreshed skin with minimal downtime. For best results, we recommend repeating the peel every 1-3 weeks for 3-6 sessions. The cost is £150 per session.

    Glycolic acid peel

Glycolic acid peels are superficial peels that are perfect for rejuvenating dull-looking skin that is showing the signs of ageing. Glycolic acid peels exfoliate deeply, whilst gently resurfacing the skin. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, these peels achieve brighter, smoother and hydrated skin. For best results, 6 treatments spaced 1 week apart are recommended.

    Mandelic acid peel

Mandelic acid peels are superficial peels that are ideal for patients with sensitive or acne prone skin who want a milder exfoliant than traditional AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids). This gentle acid is derived from almonds, it leaves your skin brighter with clear pores and reduced hyperpigmentation.

    Salicylic acid peel

Salicylic acid peels are superficial peels that are highly effective at treating acne and oily skin, as well as fine lines and wrinkles. Salicylic acid peels help reduce excess oils and the impurities that cause breakouts and blackheads. The result is a dramatically improved appearance in the skin. For best results, salicylic acid can be used every 1-2 weeks.

    Lactic acid peel

Lactic acid peels are superficial peels that are great for patients with acne-prone skin or those who experience frequent breakouts. Lactic acid peels help eliminate bacteria, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, reduce acne lesions and encourage the skin to hold moisture. For best results, lactic acid can be applied once every 1-2 weeks.

    Azelan peel

The Azelan peel is a superficial peel that consists of both salicylic and azelaic acids. Azelaic acid is suitable for all skin types, but especially for patients with acne or rosacea-prone skin and hyperpigmentation. This peel can help address acne, treat rosacea, lighten dark spots, and remove dead skin cells.

    Melanostop peel

The Melanostop peel is a combination of azelaic acid, resorcinol and phytic acid. This peel is specially formulated to treat melasma and other melanic hyperpigmentation.

    Modified Jessner peel

Jessner peels are medium to deep peels that can be customised in strength by applying multiple layers. They are excellent for treating deep scarring and pigmentation. They can also clear blocked pores, reduce redness, soothe inflammation, and address skin laxity.

  • Medium to deep peels

With our medium to deep peels, patients can expect more dramatic peeling over 3-7 days, and some redness of the skin may persist for 4 weeks. Skin looks dramatically renewed and rejuvenated. The cost is from £450.

TCA peel (Includes Obagi Blue TCA peel)

A TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peel is an intense strength peel with the ability to resurface the skin to soften acne scars, as well as address pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. TCA peels are available in a variety of strengths. For the treatment of deeper scarring, anaesthetic cream may be required. This treatment is not recommended for sensitive or dark skin.

    The Perfect Peel

The Perfect Peel is a deep chemical peel that contains glutathione, an antioxidant composed of several amino acids. This specialised peel is designed to treat hyperpigmentation by reversing the discolouration caused by excess melanin in the skin.

    VI Peel

The VI peel is a painless deeper peel, which is formulated to address ageing skin, acne and hyperpigmentation. It is suitable for all skin types. The VI Peel acts on the skin at a cellular level, encouraging collagen production, as well as removing damaged skin, to achieve a smoother, tightened, more youthful appearance.

    TCAPhen Peel

A TCA Phen peel combines trichloroacetic acid and phenol. It is the deepest peel we offer, and is equivalent to intense CO2 laser treatment. This peel may require sedation to ensure the patient’s comfort. The treated skin will undergo crusting as well as peeling for up to 2 weeks, followed by 2 months of mild skin redness. After 3-6 months, a healthier, clear and renewed complexion is revealed.

    Cosmelan and Dermamelan depigmentation peels

What makes Cosmelan and Dermamelan so special? These peels are specially formulated with a range of anti-oxidant ingredients, and include anti-ageing and depigmentation properties. Cosmelan has transformed skin health for many clients and has shown efficacy even in darker skin types.

    Body skin peels

Glycolic, salicylic, mandelic and lactic acids can be used to target the deeper layers of skin on the back and chest areas, to deeply exfoliate and achieve smoother, toned skin.

The science behind
skin peels

Skin peels range from superficial (a glycolic or salicylic acid peel) to deep (a TCA peel). Natural or chemical acids are applied to the surface of the skin to remove its outer layers. The amount of skin that is removed will depend on the acid used, its strength, and how long it is left on the skin.

The treatment stimulates the skin’s healing processes, encouraging new, fresh skin to form.

Before skin peel treatment, your practitioner will cleanse your skin and apply topical anaesthesia if required. With some deeper, more intense peels, intravenous (IV) sedation may be necessary to ensure the patient is as comfortable as possible throughout the treatment.

During the peel treatment, patients may experience a slight stinging or a mild sensation of heat. When the peel solution is removed, your practitioner will apply a cold compress to soothe the treated area.

Meet one of our doctors for a consultation to discuss your treatment options

  • Who is a skin peel suitable for?

Peels can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including acne and acne scarring, age spots, fine lines, enlarged pores, dark spots and sun damage. Our expert practitioners will assess your skin type to recommend the best peel to achieve your desired results.

  • Where on my body can I have a skin peel?

The peels we offer can be used on almost any area of the face and body. We offer skin peels for the eye area, face, hands, neck, décolletage, back and chest.

  • Are skin peels safe?

Yes, skin peels are a very safe and effective treatment for improving skin tone and texture. Our peels have undergone rigorous testing for their safety and efficacy and our expert practitioners are highly experienced in administering skin peels. Your eyes and hair will be protected during treatment.

  • Do skin peels hurt?

Superficial peel: typically causes minimal discomfort, often described as a tingling or slight stinging sensation. Any discomfort usually subsides quickly.

Medium peel: you may feel a stronger stinging or warm sensation, but it’s generally manageable. A fan or cool mask  is often used to minimise discomfort during the treatment.

Deep peel: you may feel a more intense warmth or tingling during the treatment. While these peels work at a deeper level to achieve more dramatic results, your practitioner will guide you through the process to make it as comfortable as possible.

  • What happens after a skin peel?

You will notice improvements in your skin after your first treatment. It will feel softer and appear rejuvenated. Regular treatment helps to maintain and improve the condition of your skin.

  • What is my skin type?

At Hannah London we use a skin type scale to determine which skin peel treatment is best for you:

Skin Type 1 – Light, pale white tone. Always burns and never tans.

Skin Type 2 – White, fair tone. Usually burns, tans with difficulty.

Skin Type 3 – Medium, white to olive tone. Sometimes mild burn, gradually tans to olive.

Skin Type 4 – Olive, moderate to brown tone. Rarely burns, tans with ease to a moderate brown.

Skin Type 5 – Brown, dark brown tone. Very rarely burns, tans very easily.

Skin Type 6 – Black, very dark brown to black tone. Never burns, tans very easily, deeply pigmented.

  • How long will the skin peel results last for?

The duration of a chemical peel’s benefits depends on its depth:

Superficial peel: results last 1-2 months - ideal for minor skin refreshment; can be done every 4-6 weeks.

Medium peel: results last 3-6 months - effective for targeting sun damage and mild scars, can be repeated every 3-6 months if desired.

Deep peel: effects can last 1-2 years - can address deeper wrinkles and scars, they are typically a one-off treatment.

Our practitioners will advise you on how to care for your particular skin type to extend the results of your skin peel for as long as possible.

  • What are the benefits of skin peels?

The benefits of skin peel treatment include:
    ● Improved, rejuvenated skin texture
    ● Tightened skin
    ● Reduced acne and acne scarring
    ● Improvement in rosacea and areas of pigmentation
    ● Suitable for sensitive skin

  • How long will the peel treatment take?

The length of a chemical peel treatment typically depends on the type of peel being administered:

Superficial peel: usually takes around 30 minutes, including preparation and application.

    Medium peel: between 30-45 minutes.

Deep peel: often requires around an hour, to include additional steps for comfort.

  • How long is the recovery?

Recovery time depends on the depth of the skin peel.

After a superficial peel, new skin starts regenerating after two days, and by 10-14 days, it is almost fully healed.

With more intense peels, the skin may take up to two months to heal completely, but the results are more dramatic and long-lasting.

  • What are the side effects with skin peels?

Superficial peel – This peel will cause skin redness, flakiness and peeling; tightness in the treatment area, as well as moderate sensitivity.

Intense peel – This peel may also include skin tenderness, warmth, itchiness, and a slight stinging sensation. A particularly deep peel will leave the skin looking red and scaly for a few weeks afterward, but this is normal and part of the healing process. Eventually, the old skin will fall away, leaving a layer of fresh skin beneath.

Your practitioner will discuss full aftercare instructions with you.

    -lasting.

  • What downtime is required?

The downtime for a chemical peel varies based on its depth:

Superficial peel: Minimal downtime. You may experience mild redness and slight flaking, which typically resolves within 1-3 days.

Medium peel: Moderate downtime of about 3-7 days. Expect redness, some swelling, and peeling, which gradually subsides as new skin emerges.

Deep peel: Longer downtime of 1-2 weeks. Redness, peeling, and some swelling are common, with the skin taking a bit more time to heal. Sun protection and following aftercare instructions are essential during this period.

  • What aftercare is required?

Your practitioner will give you full information about any aftercare requirements.

This will include advice about cleansing, moisturising and soothing your skin, and about wearing makeup.

With all peels, the new skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so we will also advise about protecting your skin.
